In Germany, BMW has released details of a new Mini diesel car incorporating a Bosch second generation common rail fuel system operating at 1 600 bar. The 1.4 L four cylinder engine with a compression ratio of 18.5:1, adapted from Toyota, uses direct injection, turbocharging and intercooling, giving maximum power of 56 kW at 4 000 min-1, and maximum torque of 180 N m at 2000 min-1. Average fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 58.9 mi/UKgal (4.8 L/100 km), with 129 g/km of CO2.
