Racing to save the planet, In Business, December 2002/January 2003, p 21

In UK, Derek Lowe, an aviation consultant, has stimulated Government Departments and Regional Development Agencies to support the formation of a working group arranged by the Motorsport Industry Association to examine proposals for using motorsport to drive forward higher automotive efficiency and 'greener fuels' within the competitive culture of motorsport. The objective is to develop appropriate technologies for future application within the volume production automotive sector. Early objectives are demonstrators which will achieve 100 mi/UKgal (2.83 L/100 km) at 100 mi/h (160 km/h). Rockingham Motor Speedway already acts as the venue for the Shell Eco Marathon where a record of 10 000 mi/UKgal (0.03 L/100 km) has been set using petrol, and 5 100 mi/UKgal (0.06 L/100 k m) using diesel fuel.
