Compared to its high-profile offshore UK and Norway neighbours, Ireland has seen very little in the way of hydrocarbon exploration activity. Indeed, with only 160 wells drilled on the entire Irish Continental Shelf, the region is one of the most under-drilled in north-west Europe, writes Andrew Vinall, Partner, Hanon Westwood.
