Described here is an actual but, for security reasons, unnamed underground petroleum product storage facility in the Middle East that is protected against nuclear, bacteriological, and chemical (NBC) attack. The description and subsequent discussion in this article will provide useful information for current US and European reevaluation of security vulnerability of crude oil, products, and natural gas storage facilities, especially that of the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems that monitor and control these facilities.
