Details are presented of the human-factors engineering practices included in the conversion of the Polyconfidence accommodation semisubmersible into a deepwater drilling semisubmersible, the Ocean Confidence, suitable for 7500-ft water depth and harsh environments. The conversion-work scope, safety strategy, and HFE strategy are described.
