Document management throughout plant construction. D.C. Shipman. Hydrocarbon Processing, December 1998, 77(12), 55--59.

The use of electronic document management systems (EDMS) is recommended for handling drawings and documents and for improving communications between engineers, contractors and operators. EDMS is a computer-based system which handles data and 13 different areas of data management are listed. Documentation is considered when construction begins and when plant operations start. Government-imposed health, safety and environmental regulations to control the impact of new processing facilities are discussed. The use of EDMS by Amoco is reviewed and a typical case history in Trinidad is described.
