Consideration is given to the detailed planning undertaken for the first exploration well, which was to be drilled in 1275 metres in the Nyk High area offshore northern Norway. The objective of the project described was to obtain permission to drill the deepwater Well 6707/10--1 spudding in late March 1997. Project team organization, project planning, risk assessment process, procurement of the rig --- Ocean Alliance, engineering studies, experience transfer, HSE activities, and internal policy compliance are discussed. Attention is also drawn to compliance with Norwegian Regulations, project verification, and lessons learned.
