With the acceleration of oil and gas exploration into more remote and sensitive frontier areas of the world, consideration is given to the challenge which operating companies face to improve identification, understanding, and management of the nontechnical business risks associated with these operations. A survey overview conducted by Amoco is reported, associated risks, risk assessment and management --- critical factors, hazard identification, contractor selection, project planning, monitoring, and post-project appraisal are presented and discussed.
