Russia's natural gas pipeline outlook remains promising. A. Bekker. Pipeline Gas Ind., November 1998, 81(11), 85--89.

Operations of the Unified System of National Gas Supply (USNGS) in Russia are described. This controls Russia's gas production and transportation. USNGS currently controls 69 fields producing gas and gas/condensate, 91 967 miles of gas trunk pipelines, and 246 gas compressor stations. A further 242 346 miles of low-pressure lines are used for local deliveries of gas to consumers and industrial facilities. Pipeline construction projects inside and outside Russia are reviewed. Standards and quality control aspects are discussed for 56 in. lines operating at pressures up to 1450 psi. Quality controls meet 150 9000 standards, and pipeline welding technology is reviewed.
