Microbes aid heavy oil recovery in Venezuela. C.J. Partidas, G. Trebbau and T.L. Smith. OGJ, 15 June 1998, 96(24), 62--64.

Microbial products present an alternative for increasing production in oil wells that exhibit skin damage, paraffin problems, asphaltene agglomerates, scaling tendencies, and corrosion concerns. An example is presented where treatments with biotechnology products have enhanced heavy oil recovery in 25 Lake Maracaibo wells. Details are given of the microbial treatment, application, injection procedure and additional treatments. Tabulated data show reservoir characteristics, and treatment description, and graphical illustrations show treatment results.
