Alyeska pipeline starts up tanker vapour-control system at Valdez terminal. Anon. OGJ, 11 May 1998, 96(19), 66, 67.
The new system which is reported to have cost $100 million, was installed to reduce the emissions of hazardous air pollutants in the crude-oil vapours by capturing the volatile organic compounds which would otherwise be released during crude-oil loading. Details are given of how the process works, the detonation arrestors, construction, and the regulatory role covering marine terminals.
