Utility implements monitoring system for low-pressure lines. J. Groppetti. Pipeline Gas Ind., June 1998, 81(6), 63--66.

A low-pressure gas distribution system in California is described. It operates at 0.5 psig and serves residential consumers without gas meters. A SCADA real-time monitoring system is used to ensure operational safety. Five alternative modes of operation are described and illustrated and cost data are compared in tabular form. A SCADA mini-RTU system is the preferred alternative for most locations. This is the least expensive solution, installation costs are lower than the standard RTU, and lines of communication are short. The important requirements in any such project are that pre-construction co-ordination is essential, all material should be available before starting construction, and debottlenecking of third party operations such as telephone companies.
