Shell Expro unveils spar disposal plans. Anon. OGJ, 20 January 1997, 95(3), 24, 25.

Shell UK Exploration and Production has disclosed a short list of six contractors chosen to develop detailed plans for disposal of the derelict Brent spar oil storage buoy. They comprise Brown & Root Energy Services; Kvaerner Stolt Seaway Alliance; McAlpine Doris J V; Thyssen Stahlunion GmbH, and Aker AS; Wood-GMC; and AMEC Process & Energy. The disposal options being return to the horizontal via compressed gas; vertical dismantling with jacked cable lift; complete onshore scrap; topsides training centre; hull sections quay extension; and hull sections coastal protection screen.
