Applied geophysics. Parallel computing helps 3-D depth imaging, processing. E.O. Nestvold et al. OGJ, 30 October 1996, 94(44), 35--44 (7 pages).

The basic concepts of parallel seismic computing are discussed. Consideration is given to 3-D seismic imaging, and seismic processing---the objective of the latter being to transform a large amount of data into an accurate image of the subsurface. Depth imaging requirements, parallel processing history, scalable parallel computers, monolithic parallel, and implications for industry are presented are discussed. 18 refs.
