New polymer technology for water control in gas wells. H.T. Dovan and R.D. Hutchins. SPE Production Facilities, November 1994, 9(4), 280--286.

A new polymer treatment has been developed for selectively reducing water permeability in gas wells. Gel placement in gas wells is examined in some detail and comparisons are made of several gel chemistries together with explanations for the generation of gas channels in gels formed in situ. Of three field treatments discussed, the most notable treatment was undertaken on an offshore gas well---the East High Island 285 gas field in the Gulf of Mexico. Treatment returned gas production to the well, averaging 1.9 MMcf/D gas for almost three-years. 4 refs.
