Solar power systems demand proper throughput planning. K.L Conlin. Pipeline Gas J., July 1994, 221(7), 25--29.

The evolution of solar power systems is described. These are now widely used in solar powered flow meters, remote terminal units, injectors, odorizers, radios, telephones, VSATs, and cathodic protection systems. Solar technology is now more science than art and it is recommended as a safe, reliable, and approved procedure for pipeline applications. Ten guidelines are described for ensuring good solar design. Accurate load information is described as the main requirement in designing an effective solar system. Winter conditions of minimum solar energy availability should be assumed for design purposes. Other recommendations are also reviewed.
