Attention is drawn to the considerable progress which has been made during the last decade. However it is considered that the analysis of horizontal wells provides a much greater challenge than that of vertical wells. Details are reviewed of new flow regimes that have been identified together with the simple equations and flow regime existence criteria. 34 refs.
