Gravity wave theories. J. Witz. Advanced offshore engineering, Chapter 5, 53 pages (See abstract 452 for complete reference).

Consideration is given primarily to gravity waves generated by wind action, however brief details are discussed with reference to gravity waves induced by seismic action. The unsteady fluid velocities, accelerations and pressures induced by gravity waves are responsible for a significant proportion of the environmental forces acting on offshore structures, subsea pipes and associated submerged structures. Line wave theory and Stokes' third and fifth order theories are described in some detail as well as other wave theories together with the relevant mathematical formulae. 23 refs.
