Effect of grease composition on grease life. Part 2. Y. Kawamura et al. NLGI Spokesm., June 1994, 58(3), 24--30.

Research investigations by the Japanese Society of Tribologists are reported. The ASTM grease life test machine (D1741) and the Soda grease life test machine (Federal Test Method 331.2) are used under test conditions that are summarized in tabular form. Effects of oxidation stability, shear stability, oil separation, and evaporation loss on grease life are determined for two lithium stearate and two lithium 12-hydroxystearate greases. The influence of base oil composition, base oil viscosity, antioxidants and rust inhibitor additives is described. Further work is in progress to develop standardized methods for determining the service life of greases. 7 refs.
