Gas-controller trainer promises to cut instruction time Part 2. T.A. Meadows. Pipeline Gas Ind., March 1996, 79(3), 71--74.
A simulator-based gas controller package recently installed by Columbia Gas Transmission is described. This forms part of a broader package of pipeline simulation tools. The first phase of the project involves replacing an existing SCADA system and the second involves the addition of a pilot modelling system. Overcoming technical hurdles in setting up the new project is discussed. Simulation of compressor modelling accuracy and compressor activity after a 14% increase in calculated horsepower are described and illustrated. The new gas controller cuts a three-year training programme by up to six months and further reductions are confidently predicted. 4 refs.
