Drill-floor design---a consideration of human factors. J.V.F. Berman andJ.H.F. Huddleston. Offshore Technol. Rept., OTH-94--443, publ'd June 1996, Health Safety Exec., HMSO, figs., tables, 136 pages, Price #35 (ISBN 0-7176-1203-4).

Consideration is given to the way in which the design process for drill-floor layouts and drilling systems can contribute towards safer drilling. A methodology is provided for supporting the design of safe systems by ensuring that design process properly accounts for human factors. Accident and injury statistics are discussed and specific human factors are examined, involving the systematic application of relevant information about human characteristics and the behaviour to the design of the objects, facilities and environments which people use. A bibliography comprising 76 references is included.
