Technology and lubricants of the 1996 domestic automobiles. R.L. Fennema. NLGI Spokesm., January 1996, 59(10), 6--14.

The 1996 model automobiles from Chrysler, Ford and GM are described and illustrated. Lubrication requirements are discussed and data for engine oil and filter change intervals are tabulated for different service conditions. Requirements for chassis lubrication and for gear lubricants are reviewed. Lubricant change intervals for automatic transmission and transaxle fluids are also described. The fluids recommended are MOPAR ATF-PLUS (Chrysler), MERCON (Ford), and Dexron 111 (GM). These products are friction modified so that the coefficient of dynamic friction is higher than the coefficient of static friction.
