Encirclement sleeves reduce pipeline repair costs. Anon. Pipeline Gas J., January 1996, 223(1), 33--35.

Methods for repairing pipeline damage caused by corrosion, cracking, denting or other effects are reviewed and a new fibreglass-composite encirclement sleeve is described. This requires no welding and it can be installed while the pipeline remains in service. The four-step installation procedure is described and illustrated. A high-strength two-part load transferring filler is applied to the defect area and an adhesive is then applied to eight wrapping layers to produce a final thickness of 0.5 in. A tension strap is then used to tighten the composite wrap in place before curing of the adhesive begins. The integrity of the encirclement sleeves is equivalent to that of steel.
