Cargo oil heating requirements for an FSO vessel conversion. B.C.M. Chen. Marine Technol., January 1996, 33(1), 58--68.

Attention is drawn to the problems that highly viscous crude oil stored in a floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel can provoke such as cargo pumping and remain-on-board problems. A study is reported of cargo oil heating in the vessel to reduce viscosity and minimize the problems studied, as well as heating requirements. Details are presented of a simplified but robust heat loss analysis for the vessel, fuel consumption for the vessel is estimated, and boiler loads for heating steam generation and heating devices are discussed. Various configurations are investigated and alternatives to cargo heating are considered. Recommendations are presented and discussed. 10 refs.
