Improved method for acidizing oil wells in sandstone formations. J.L. Gidley, E.J. Brezovec and G.E. King. SPE Production Facilities, February 1996, 11(1), 4--10.

A previous study of field experience indicated that acidizing in a majority of oil wells, unlike that of gas wells, caused response peaks at relatively low acid volumes per foot of formation treated, with often less than optimum results. A further study is described which shows that displacement of oil by CO2 ahead of acid treatment not only allows larger acid volumes to be used, but also optimizes treatment results. Improved acid response, less stimulation of water, and reduced emulsion separation problems at the surface are reported. 25 refs.
