Environmental impact of gas oil desulphurization. (In French). C. Armengol. Rev. Inst. Francais Petrole, September--October 1995, 50(5), 657--667.

A study is reported the aim of which was to assess the environmental impact of the reduction of the diesel sulphur content from 0.3 to 0.05%. The entire energy cycle is reviewed, from oil extraction to fuel combustion in the engine. Gains and losses in terms of global pollution are evaluated according to the type of hydrogen used (partial oxidation of vacuum residues or coal, steam reforming of natural gas or electrolysis naphtha) and the type of feedstock (straight run gas oil or light cycle oil) in the hydrodesulphurization process.
