Impact of oil company investment on the world coal industry---overcapacity and price destabilization 1973--1992. R. Koerner, I. Rutledge and P. Wright. Energy Policy, August 1995, 23(8), 659--667.

Details are discussed of the scope of oil company investments in the coal industry, both in the US and elsewhere in the world. Consideration is given to the way in which this investment, which can be attributed to the oil price shocks, has served to destabilize and depress international coal prices, establishing in particular a novel link between oil company investment in Wyoming and US export prices. Tabulated and graphical data are presented and discussed. 28 refs.
