Chemical plant satisfies OSHA and ISO standards. W. Wells and K.L. Taylor. Hydrocarbon Processing, June 1995, 74(6), 169--173.

An Amoco petrochemicals plan in Illinois is described and illustrated. Operation is designed to comply with OSHA 1910--119 and ISO 9000 standards and the workforce is trained to carry out all tasks within a given job classification. Details are given on the selection of consultants and staff capable of producing written documentation to describe plant technology. A three-phase development programme involving documentation, training, validation, certification, and computer-based tracking steps is described. The plant received ISO certification in 1993 and 188 operators and leaders were trained through the system. Modification of two other chemical processing plants is also described.
