Chemical industry in Brazil. C.M. Bittencourt. Chem. Ind., 2 October 1995, No. 19, 789--791.

The stability of the Brazilian economy is described. Chemicals production increased between 1991 and 1994 by 13.8% from 22.9 Mt to 26 Mt. The percentage share of each segment is given. In 1994 the chemical industry was profitable for the first time in 4 years. The installed capacities of the three main petrochemical companies are listed. These are Copene at Camacari, Copesul at Triunfo and Petroquimica Uniao in Sao Paulo. Future developments and growth are considered.
