Hydrodynamic property estimation in a ROV design. K. Nishimoto and A.G. de Almeida. Paper. Proc. 9th Symp., Internat. Offshore Engng., September 1995, Rio-de-Janeiro, pages 479--493. (See abstract 391 for complete reference).

The need is stressed for the hydrodynamic characteristics to be established by tried and trusted methods from the start of the design, especially as ROV geometry comprises bluff bodies. The application is described of hydrodynamic coefficient databases, linked through general artificial intelligence techniques, to obtain a hydrodynamic characteristic in estimation which accounts for the interference of each body on the others. From current results, this methodology has been shown to be satisfactory, with an error around 5%. 18 refs.
