Attention is drawn to the suitability, for offshore purposes, of titanium alloy (ASTM Grade 5) comprising 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium, and 90% titanium---known generally as titanium 6--4. Its advantageous aspects in respect of weight, corrosion and erosion, resistance, elasticity, and welding are presented.
