Installation of natural gas distribution pipelines and meters in high-rise condominiums in New York is described. The concept of vertical subdivision is explained and the project opens up new opportunities for gas appliances. Servicing options are reviewed and they include central meter closet design, in-suite metering design, external riser design, and internal header design. Each of these features is described. Automatic meter reading technology is used to minimize inconvenience to customers. Gas meters are equipped with ERT devices (encoder, receiver, transmitter). These are installed on meter faceplates.
