Gulf of Mexico horizontal well improves attic-oil recovery in active waterdrive reservoir. D.T. Vo et al. SPE Reservoir Engng., August 1997, 12(3), 163--168.

The field case study presented demonstrates the use of horizontal wells in the production of thin oil rims. Prewell planning shows the use of reservoir simulation for well performance forecasts, selection of drilling mud for minimal damage, logging while drilling for steering and optimal completion techniques. Post-well results show that horizontal wells, applied with integrated technology, do not simply help to accelerate production but also to improve oil recovery in comparison with conventional wells for this type of reservoir problem. 13 refs.
