Good cement design is discussed and the development by Arco of effective wellbore-cleanout technology that combines an effective displacement technique with differential spacers is reported. Spacer design is examined and the Arco SL spacer is described. It typically comprises a base aqueous fluid, a blend of viscosifiers, a copolymer dispersant, and sugar-lipid nonionic surfactants.
