Characterization of the structure of Saudi crude asphaltenes by X-ray diffraction. J.W. Shirokoff, M.N. Siddiqui and M.F. Ali. Energy and Fuels, May/June 1997, 11(3), 561--565.

The aromaticity and crystallite parameters of the asphaltenes were determined. The results supported the general structure of condensed aromatic sheets with naphthenic and alkyl systems on the periphery. Aromaticity increased with increasing API gravity. Results are compared with NMR studies and high performance gel permeation chromatography of the same asphaltenes. 14 refs.
