Simulation of cold production in heavy-oil reservoirs---wormhole dynamics. B. Tremblay, G. Sedgwick and K. Forshner. SPE Reservoir Engng., May 1997, 12(2), 110--117.
Studies are reported of wormhole creation by production-induced pressure gradients and drag in unconsolidated sands. The development of wormholes similar to the one documented in this laboratory experiment provides a plausible explanation for the high-oil and sand-production rates in wells under cold production. 22 refs.
