Understand the basics of packaged steam generators. V. Ganapathy. Hydrocarbon Processing, July 1997, 76(7), 85--89.

Factors involved in the selection of oil and gas-fired steam generators are discussed. In chemical plants, refineries, and co-generation facilities generators normally have capacities up to 250 000 lb/hr at pressures up to 1500 psig and at temperatures of 1000 degrees F. Design limitations are discussed. Custom-designed boilers, furnace parameters, and comparisons of radiant and convective superheaters are described and illustrated. In developing boiler purchasing specification it is recommended that close attention is given to steam parameters, fuels and emissions, fan operation, and surface areas. 2 refs.
