Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons [PAHs] in the environment---the former industrial sites remediation. (In French). J.-M. Costes and V. Druelle. Rev. Inst. Francais Petrole, July--August 1997, 52(4), 425--440.

PAHs can be found in former industrial sites subsoil, especially on manufactured gas plant sites. Gaz De France which still owns some 467 of manufactured gas plants, is responsible for the prevention of any environmental consequences due to the possible presence of residues in the site's subsoil. A risk assessment has been undertaken, following site investigations, which takes into account future use of site. It is concluded that biotreatments are the most suitable forms of remediation for large volumes of low or medium contaminated soils. 9 refs.
