The Oil Industries Club (www.oilclub.co.uk) has elected Peter Newman FCA CEnv Hon FEI as its President, in succession to Chris Moorhouse. Newman is a Director of The Addax & Oryx Group and of Oryx Petroleum Company. His career in the oil industry started more than 30 years ago with Mobil and included lengthy spells with Andersen and then Deloitte, where he led the firm’s Oil & Gas sector practice globally in consulting, audit, tax and corporate finance up until his retirement in 2009. He is also a Director of Eclipse Shipping and a member of the World Petroleum Council’s UK National Committee and the Royal Geographical Society’s Finance Committee. Newman also served the Energy Institute and its predecessor, the Institute of Petroleum, as Honorary Treasurer for 10 years to 2008. Speaking at the Club’s AGM, he said: ‘It is a pleasure and a great honour to be asked to lead this prestigious organisation as your President. I look forward to working with John Hampton and the Committee to ensure we have a lively and interesting programme of events over the next couple of years. Chris Moorhouse has been an excellent President and he will be a hard act to follow, but I very much hope and expect to maintain the Club’s reputation and vitality, attracting good attendance at our functions and a healthy flow of new members’. The OIC, founded in 1925, provides oil sector directors, managers and guests with opportunities to network and socialise outside formal business relationships. The OIC presently has some 550 members drawn from all sections of the oil industry. Luncheon meetings are arranged quarterly, usually at the Connaught Rooms, Great Queen Street, London. Members and guests are able to socialise and are addressed by distinguished speakers from the fields of industry, politics, entertainment or sport. The next event is the Sportsmans Lunch on 12 June, which this year will have an Olympics theme. The Club holds a formal Annual Dinner for members and guests in November at the Grosvenor Hotel in Park Lane, London. Additionally there is a thriving OIC Golfing Society, which this year celebrates its 75th Anniversary and has around 100 members.
