Gleaner Oils, a major Scottish fuel distribution business, has been put up for sale. Gleaner, whose latest results show a turnover last year of £122.3mn, employs a total of 181 staff in Scotland. It has 11 depots in the north-east, Highlands and Islands, Argyll and Fife. The opportunity, brought about by the wish to retire of shareholder Brian Young and Chairman Billy Laing, is expected to spark the interest not only amongst competitors either looking to expand into Scotland or enhance their current position, but also new players looking for the infrastructure to enter the market.
