Stena Line has become the first ferry company to install wind turbines on a passenger ferry. The company has equipped its Jutlandica ferry with two 4 kW wind turbines, which have been mounted on 4 m high masts on the prow of the ship. The 23,000 kWh/y turbines will be used to power lighting on the car deck. The reduced air resistance at sea will also result in a reduction in fuel consumption of between 80 and 90 tonnes per year, Stena says.
