25 MW geothermal plant planned for Mexico A 25 MW geothermal plant is will be built in Mexico’s eastern Puebla state. The Los Humeros II Phase B plant will materialise following a €30mn contract between Mexico’s Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) and Alstom, and will follow the phase A plant which was commissioned in May 2009. When built, both plants will produce 400 GWh of electricity. Alstom will supply the complete engineering, procurement and construction solution including the steam turbine, air cooled turbogenerator, turbine control and distributed control system for the project. The turbine will be produced at Alstom’s local manufacturing facility in the municipality of Morelia, located in the state of Michoacán. The project is Alstom’s second since its recent return to the Mexican geothermal market. CFE has contracted Alstom for several geothermal contracts in the past, including the building of four 25 MW units at the Los Azufres geothermal power plant in Michoacán state in 2000, and the supply of two 5 MW units to the Las Tres Virgenes geothermal power plant in Baja California Sur in 1998.
