Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond announced last month the findings of a one-year study into Scotland’s offshore carbon dioxide (CO2) storage capacity. The study has shown that Scotland has the potential to permanently store up to 46mn tonnes of CO2. The report also found that more than 90% of this storage could be in acquifiers - challenging previous perceptions that CO2 would primarily be stored in hydrocarbon fields.
