The winner of the Energy Institute’s (EI) 2006 Energy Manager of the Year award was Ashley Baxter from Nottingham City Council, while the winner of the Renewable Innovation award was Mark McGuigan from Omagh College. Presented at the Gala Dinner of the National Energy Management Conference and Exhibition (Nemex), the awards recognise and celebrate excellence, innovation and best practice within the energy industry. Baxter has been responsible for leading a number of innovative initiatives that have achieved savings in both financial and environmental costs. As a result, Nottingham City Council is among the largest independent UK purchasers of green energy. Meanwhile, McGuigan has been instrumental in developing a renewable energy demonstration facility to stimulate rural diversification and innovative energy applications amongst the local community.
