British Nuclear Group’s Project Services is to develop the decommissioning strategy for the Kurchatov Institute in Moscow. The contract, worth approximately £300,000, will be delivered as part of British Nuclear Group’s implementation of the UK DTI Nuclear Safety Programme (NSP). The outline site decommissioning programme will be based on an optimum decommissioning strategy, established in full compliance with the current domestic Russian and international guidelines, and approved by the the Federal Agency for Atomic Energy (FAAE) in Moscow. The programme will also provide the basis for further development of other programmes, including spent nuclear fuel management and site radioactive waste management, and decommissioning programmes for each individual research reactor facility.
