A total of 56 projects in seven areas claimed to be ‘critical to driving forward innovation and boosting the economy’ have received a £60mn boost from the UK Department of Trade and Industry. The projects range from developing cutting edge stem cell applications for therapeutic medicine, to creating the next wave of renewable energy technologies, a sector that has been awarded some £9.3mn. Additional funding of £9mn has also been awarded to establish knowledge transfer networks in the seven technology areas.
