Public hearings on the preliminary environmental impact assessment of Lukoil Overseas and KazMunaiGaz operations at the Dostyk offshore field, in the central part of the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, (Tyub-Karagan and Atashskaya blocks) were held on 19 December 2003 at Aktau. Exploration activities are be carried out on a phased basis, the first of which will take place on the Tyub-Karagan block and include a 2D seismic survey and the drilling of an exploration well. The second phase calls for 3D seismic survey and drilling of appraisal wells. The Atashskaya block will be covered by exploration and detailed 2D seismic surveys.
