The UK Society of British Gas Industries (SBGI) has set up a new membership section specifically aimed at potential players in the domestic combined heat and power (DCHP) market. According to John Stiggers, Director of SBGI, the potential benefits of domestic CHP are ‘impressive’. ‘Consumers could cut their home’s energy bills by typically £150-£200 a year and carbon dioxide emissions by up to 25% as well as gaining greater security of power supply,’ he stated. ‘The fit with the government’s environmental, social and energy policies could hardly be closer. With government support and a determined effort by the industry to overcome possible barriers, it is not unrealistic to expect something like 250,000 DCHP units a year to be installed in the UK by 2010.’
