National Wind Power has reportedly been allocated a wind farm site located approximately 6 km from the north Wales coast. The proposed site, which will be known as North Hoyle Offshore Wind Farm, will consist of 30 wind turbines with an installed capacity of 60-90 MW. The project managers claim that enough pollution-free power will be generated each year to meet the equivalent demand of at least 50,000 homes, offsetting the annual release of 180,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. UK Governmental policy is to increase the use of renewable energy to 5% of UK demand by the end of 2003 and 10% by 2010.
