Van Oord’s Jumping Jack to help Ireland’s first offshore wind farm

Installation of Ireland’s first offshore wind farm will begin this month when Mammoet Van Oord’s jack-up crane rig begins its lift programme. Dublin-based Airtricity is investing E 50m ($53m) on its Arklow Bank wind farm in the Irish Sea to install seven turbines with a combined generating capacity of 25 MW of power. Around E 25m has been spent on 3.6 MW turbines and cells supplied by US contractor General Electric, and the rest on the turbine towers, concrete foundations and installation services. Mammoet Van Oord’s jack-up Jumping Jack is mobilising to the Arklow Bank area to begin a three-month installation programme.
